# Export job

The `ExportJob` family — 2 operations.

A background export is a saved search plan the platform runs for you — as you, with your own permissions — for up to five minutes, writing every matching record to ONE file: CSV (one column per field, nested fields as dotted names, lists as JSON in the cell) or JSON Lines (one record per line). It starts from one kind of record and may follow up to three relationships; the file is kept for seven days and only the person who started the export can download it. The record shows the plan in words, the format, how far the export got (steps run, records examined, parts, rows and bytes written) and why it stopped. It is queued, then running, and ends done, cancelled (by you, or when your session ends — no file), expired (the five minutes ran out — the rows written so far are in the file) or failed. One background export runs per signed-in session; an export stops on its own at 256 MiB. Nothing here edits anything.

## Operations

| Operation | Kind | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [exportJob](/reference/export-job/exportJob/) | query | Look up one background export — a search plan the platform is running, or has run, for you to a file: its words, the format, how far it got, how many rows and bytes it wrote, and why it stopped if it stopped short. |
| [exportJobs](/reference/export-job/exportJobs/) | query | Your background exports — the exports you started, newest first, with their progress and outcome. |
